Meet Our Newest Shape-Shifters

The last couple of months has been very exciting for Shift Joe Public having welcomed eight new awesome people to the brand design team. They are joining the team with a mutual passion to make Shift better and we think you should meet them!


Nontokozo Ndlovu: Account Executive




What is your nickname? NT

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? Uhm, I was referred by a friend.

How has your experience been so far? Been great, People are awesome and I’m learning a lot.

Why did you choose advertising? Was looking for a career fun and challenging and dynamic at the same time and ended up here. If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? Events Manager.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? That I’m mean because I apparently have a resting “b” face.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best thing is the freedom in the work space and the people one gets to meet and interact with, worst can be difficult clients.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Uhm… everyone I’ve met is interesting in their own way.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? no surprises yet.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life? The Truman show.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I’m yet to discover it.

Mokgadi Makhura: Account Executive




What is your nickname? Kgadi.

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? I applied for the position online and got called I for an interview.

How has your experience been so far? Epic! Really great people and clients.

Why did you choose advertising? I was looking for both a science and an art, marketing and advertising does exactly that.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? A pilot – although I’m scared of heights.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? Interesting question – I’d say that people think I am way more introverted in person.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best: the results of your hard work , Worst: TIMESHEETS.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Yoh, uhm there are a lot. But I’d say Xolisa, his level of thinking is next level.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? I think coming from a very small agency, I was incredibly intimidated to come here because it’s SO big. But I quickly realized that the people are friendly and you almost forget how big the agency is.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life? (what a deep question) – I think I will go with: Girlfriends – the series.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I make really great dumpling and steam bread.

Abigail Sizaliyo: Senior Consultant




What is your nickname? Abs.

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? The amazing work they put out, I had to be part of the team.

How has your experience been so far? Great, still settling in.

Why did you choose advertising? The freedom to be creative.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? Interior Designer or Philanthropist.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? I am quiet.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best - freedom to be creative, Worst – late nights!

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Christo Kruger, wicked sense of humour.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? I am yet to experience it.

Jana Jansen Van Vuuren: Designer




What is your nickname? Janabom

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? I came for an interview and I guess they liked me enough to offer me the job (lucky me).

How has your experience been so far? It's been an adventure.

Why did you choose advertising? Pure love for design.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? Architect, poet or trophy wife.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? That I’m an adult.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? The best: the champagne The worst: email threads and the microwave queue.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Victor from IT, he introduced me to the taste of India lunchtime specials.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? That everyone is super nice and push us by inspiring and building us up.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I can put my whole fist in in my mouth, wanna see (not really though).

Wilmarie Deetlefs: Designer




What is your nickname? Wil, Wilma.

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? I just walked in here one day and pretended to work here. It’s been two Months and 9 days in counting and nobody has noticed yet…

How has your experience been so far?
I dig the vibe, the work, the people and the free banana’s Especially the banana’s.

Why did you choose advertising? I suck at doing math. I also believe that advertising can changes perceptions and attitudes. Who doesn’t want to silently control the world?

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be the? Person who hides in Iris Apfel’s closet and tries on her expensive furs when she’s asleep.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? That I own ten cats, not just one.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best: The rad people you get to work with. (Also the banana’s) Worst: Deadlines.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Joe public has no boring people, the company only seems to hire weirdo’s.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? ALL THE FREE BANANA’S.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I’m ready good at opening beer bottles using unconventional methods. I grew up in a rough neighborhood.

Karla Meyer: Junior Designer




What is your nickname? Vlooi, Karlz, Kalla

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? I came for an interview.

How has your experience been so far? Very good, I’m enjoying every moment.

Why did you choose advertising? Because I am a creative.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? A Doctor.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? People usually think I am very shy.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best thing is that my job is being creative not a lot of people can say that. Until now there is no worst thing. (I’ve been working for 4 weeks).

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Everyone is interesting at Joe Public.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? The cool jobs we are working on. The cool stuff I get to do although I am a junior.

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? Word of mouth.

How has your experience been so far? Fun and inspiring.

Why did you choose advertising? Didn’t choose it, it chose me.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? A manatee, because they take things really slow and live in coastal areas.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best – inappropriate stock images, worst – long working hours.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Christo, he listens to Amore Vittone.

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? Many Afrikaans-speaking people.

Neela Bamberger: Consultant




What is your nickname? Bam Bam

How did you become a part of Shift Joe Public? I’m a good catch, and a good company knows a good match. (also I applied…)

How has your experience been so far? EPIC. Work is amazing, people are so friendly, energy is.

Why did you choose advertising? The thrill of it, fast paced, like-minded people, interesting challenges, combination of creativity and business.

If I wasn’t in advertising, I would be a? Toy/ Game designer or landscaper or a private island manager.

What’s a common misconception people have about you? Nothing- what you see is what you get, but also I’m completely addicted to gardening.

What is the best and worst thing about agency life? Best= People , Worst= Stress (I aint about that life).

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met at Joe Public United? Everybody, I will not name and fame!

What has been the biggest surprise about working at Shift Joe Public? That we so big yet still maintain that human/personal touch.
